How to Make a Brand Kit in Canva (And Why You Need One)

If you're a content creator, graphic designer, streamer, or small business owner, there's a good chance you're managing more than one brand. You might have a YouTube channel, a Twitch presence, a business website, and several social media accounts, each with its own visual identity.
And if you're a designer working with clients, you're probably juggling their brands, too.
Keeping everything visually consistent can become time-consuming, especially when you're creating content regularly. Nobody wants to spend 20 minutes hunting down the right font, matching a logo color, or rebuilding something they've already designed.
That's where Canva's Brand Kit comes in.
What Is Canva's Brand Kit Feature?
A Brand Kit is a collection of your brand's visual elements, organized in one place inside Canva. It stores your logos, color palettes, typography, and other branding assets so they're easily accessible whenever you're designing.
As a graphic designer, I consider Brand Kits especially valuable when managing several clients or producing content across different platforms. Each brand has its own visual identity, and a Brand Kit keeps those identities organized without having to start from scratch every time.
Whether you're making Instagram posts, YouTube thumbnails, Twitch overlays, or promotional flyers, having your branding ready to go makes the entire process faster.
And when you're creating content regularly, time is money.
How to Create a Brand Kit in Canva
Setting up a Brand Kit only takes a few steps, especially if you already have your logos, colors, and fonts established.
Step 1: Open Canva's Brand Hub
Log in to Canva.
Select Brand from the left navigation menu.
Select Create new Brand Kit or open an existing kit.
Give your Brand Kit a recognizable name.
If you're managing multiple brands, use clear names so you can quickly identify which kit belongs to which project.
Step 2: Upload Your Logos
Navigate to the Logos section and upload your brand's logo files.
Consider including different versions, such as transparent PNGs, horizontal and vertical layouts, or versions designed for light and dark backgrounds.
Step 3: Add Your Brand Colors
Open the Colors section and enter your brand's hexadecimal (HEX) color codes.
These six-digit codes identify exact colors. For example, #000000 represents black, while #FFFFFF represents white.
You can save your primary, secondary, and accent colors so they're available whenever you design.
Step 4: Choose Your Brand Fonts
Open the Fonts section and assign fonts to your titles, headings, subtitles, and body text.
Choose combinations that complement each other and reflect your brand's personality. If your brand uses a custom font, eligible Canva plans also support font uploads.
Step 5: Add Additional Brand Assets
Depending on your Canva plan, you can organize frequently used photographs, illustrations, graphics, and other brand elements.
You can also establish brand guidelines to help maintain a consistent visual style.
Is Canva's Brand Kit Free?
Yes. Canva Free includes one Brand Kit, while Canva Pro currently includes up to five.
If you're working with a single brand, the free option may be all you need. However, designers and creators managing multiple brands may benefit from a paid plan.
You can also create a basic brand reference sheet using Canva's free design tools. Include your logos, font names, color codes, and visual examples in a single document that you can reference whenever necessary.
Although this isn't the same as having multiple built-in Brand Kits, it provides a convenient way to organize your branding without paying for an upgrade.
Once your Brand Kit is established, you can access your saved assets while working in Canva's editor, making it easier to move from one project to the next without repeatedly setting up the same visual elements.
**Pro Tip: Use AI to Help Build Your Brand Kit
AI can save you a considerable amount of time when putting together your Canva Brand Kit, especially if you already have a logo but haven't established all your brand elements.
For example, you can upload your logo to an AI tool like ChatGPT and ask it to identify the colors in your design and provide their corresponding HEX codes. From there, you can copy those codes directly into Canva's Brand Kit. Just double-check the colors against your original logo to make sure they're accurate.
AI can also help you choose complementary fonts. If you already have a particular font you love, ask AI to recommend a family of fonts that work well with it. You can even specify a theme or aesthetic, such as vintage, futuristic, minimalist, or Art Deco, to get recommendations tailored to your brand.
Beyond colors and typography, AI can help brainstorm brand graphics, visual themes, and other assets that complement your existing identity.
Instead of spending hours researching font combinations or experimenting with color palettes, you can use AI to narrow down your options and build a more cohesive Brand Kit in less time.
