How to Play Videos on Twitch With Channel Point Redemptions (TriggerFyre)

Ever been watching somebody's Twitch stream when a viewer redeems something in chat and suddenly a hilarious video pops up on screen? Maybe it's a jump scare, a dancing character, or some ridiculous sound effect that sends everybody into hysterics.

That's one of my favorite things about interactive streaming. Viewers aren't just watching the show. They get to participate in it.

On my own Twitch channel, I have a pair of kissing fish that appear on screen. Whenever somebody triggers them, I make kissing sounds to match. I've also seen streamers pretend to get splashed when somebody activates a water animation. It's a simple interaction, but it makes viewers feel like they're part of the entertainment.

You can create these experiences using Twitch Channel Point redemptions, a free tool called TriggerFyre, and OBS Studio.

Here's how to set everything up.

How Do You Make Videos Play When Someone Redeems Channel Points on Twitch?

Twitch lets eligible streamers create custom Channel Point rewards that viewers can redeem using points earned from watching their streams.

But to make a video automatically appear on your broadcast, you'll need a third-party integration.

There are several options, including Sound Alerts, Streamer.bot, Mix It Up, and TriggerFyre.

For this tutorial, we're using TriggerFyre, which lets you connect custom videos to Twitch Channel Point redemptions and display them through OBS.

You can get started with its free features.

Step 1: How Do You Add a Video Trigger in TriggerFyre?

  1. Visit TriggerFyre and sign in with your Twitch account.

  2. Open the Videos section.

  3. Click Create, or use the + button if you've already created other triggers.

  4. Give your trigger a command name.

  5. Choose Select Video and upload the video you want to play.

  6. Adjust the video size, position, volume, and other settings as needed.

  7. Save your trigger.

You can create all kinds of effects, from animated characters and funny reactions to custom branded videos.

The next step is connecting that video to a Twitch redemption.

Step 2: How Do You Connect TriggerFyre to Twitch Channel Point Redemptions?

Open your Twitch Creator Dashboard.

  1. Navigate to Viewer Rewards → Power-Ups & Channel Points.

  2. Open the management page for your Channel Points rewards.

  3. Find Custom Rewards and select Add New Custom Reward.

  4. Give your redemption a name.

  5. Choose how many Channel Points viewers must spend.

  6. Save your new reward.

Now return to TriggerFyre.

Edit the video trigger you created and select the option to associate it with a Channel Point reward. Enter the exact name of your Twitch redemption in the reward field.

Save your changes.

Matching the reward names is important because TriggerFyre needs to recognize which Twitch redemption should activate your video.

Step 3: How Do You Add TriggerFyre Videos to OBS?

Once your video trigger and Twitch redemption are connected, you'll need to make the video visible on your stream.

  1. In TriggerFyre, find the option to copy your overlay or Browser Source link.

  2. Open OBS Studio.

  3. Under Sources, click the + button.

  4. Select Browser.

  5. Create a new source and name it something recognizable, such as TriggerFyre Videos.

  6. Paste your TriggerFyre URL into the URL field.

  7. Set the Browser Source dimensions to match your streaming canvas. For a 1080p stream, use 1920 × 1080.

  8. Click OK.

Make sure your new Browser Source is positioned above the other visual sources you want the video to appear over.

Now your TriggerFyre video has somewhere to play.

Step 4: How Do You Test a Twitch Video Redemption?

Open your Twitch channel and find the Channel Points icon near the chat box.

Locate the custom reward you created and redeem it.

If everything is connected correctly, your video should appear in OBS.

If the video doesn't play, check that the Twitch reward name matches the name entered in TriggerFyre, the trigger is saved, and your Browser Source is active in OBS.

Can You Trigger Videos With Twitch Chat Commands Instead?

Yes! TriggerFyre also lets you activate media using chat commands.

When creating or editing a trigger, enable Allow Command and configure its command settings.

This gives you another way to play videos during a stream without requiring somebody to spend Channel Points.

For example, you might create a command that activates a special animation whenever someone types it in chat.

Is TriggerFyre Free?

TriggerFyre offers free access to its basic media-trigger features, so you can experiment with interactive videos, sounds, and images without purchasing an expensive streaming package.

It also offers supporter options for creators who want additional capacity.

For someone just getting started with interactive Twitch redemptions, the free features are a good place to begin.

Make Your Twitch Stream More Interactive

Channel Point redemptions can do more than reward people for watching. They can give viewers a way to influence what's happening on screen.

You can create running jokes with your community, trigger funny character appearances, surprise people with jump scares, or rotate special animations for holidays and events.

And when you react to those effects yourself, the experience becomes even more entertaining.

Your stream doesn't have to be a passive experience. With a few custom redemptions, you can turn it into a little interactive funhouse.
