How Do You Pin a Message in Discord?
Sometimes the most important message in a Discord channel is the easiest one to lose. A meeting time, a useful link, or a set of instructions can disappear under an afternoon of conversation.
Pinned messages solve that problem by keeping selected posts easy to retrieve without requiring everyone to scroll through the entire channel history.
You can pin messages in server text channels and direct messages. The exact controls are slightly different on desktop and mobile.
How to Pin a Discord Message on Desktop or Browser
Open Discord and find the message you want to save. You do not need to copy it to another channel or repost it.
Open the server channel or direct message containing the post.
Hover over the message to reveal its controls.
Select the three-dot More menu on the right.
Choose Pin Message, then confirm the action.
How to Pin a Discord Message on Mobile
You can also pin messages directly from the Discord mobile app. The menu is accessed by touching the message instead of hovering over it.
Open the channel or chat containing the message.
Press and hold the message you want to pin.
Select Pin Message from the options.
Confirm when Discord asks.
Where Do You Find Pinned Messages in Discord?
On desktop, open the channel or direct message and select the Pins icon near the upper-right corner. Discord displays the pinned messages for that conversation, and you can jump back to their original locations.
On mobile, tap the channel or conversation name, open its details, and choose Pins. Select a pinned message to find it in the conversation.
Pins belong to the channel or conversation in which they were added. Pinning a message in one channel does not place it in every other channel.
How Do You Unpin a Message in Discord?
On desktop, open Pins and use the remove control beside the message, or right-click the original post and choose Unpin Message. Confirm if Discord asks.
On mobile, open the pinned messages view, press and hold the pinned post, and choose Unpin Message.
Unpinning removes the shortcut from the pinned list. It does not delete the original message from the channel.
Why Can't You Pin a Message in a Discord Server?
In a server channel, your role generally needs the Pin Messages permission, or you need to be the server owner. If you cannot see Pin Message, ask an administrator to check your role's permissions.
Server admins can adjust that permission in Server Settings under Roles. Anyone who can access the channel can typically view its pinned messages even if they cannot add new pins.
Direct messages and group messages allow participants to pin messages without the same server-role restriction.
How Many Messages Can You Pin in Discord?
Discord's current help documentation lists a limit of 250 pinned messages per channel or direct message. If you reach the limit, remove an old pin before adding another.
A pin can hold an ordinary text message or a post containing an attachment, image, video, or link. For a busy community, use pins for information people need to find again, rather than saving every interesting conversation.
If the information needs a permanent, organized home rather than a shortcut, consider a dedicated resources channel or Discord Forum channel instead.
